CITIZEN CONSUMER CLUB

Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group organized an awareness rally on Road Safety on 1 July 2016. More than 100 Consumer Club members of Patrician College participated in the rally. The students were sensitized on road safety issues through a street play. An Illustration was given on first aid to be given to accident victims.

On 14 July 2016, the office bearers of the Club were honoured with the badges by the chief guest Mr. Arun Sundar Dhayalan, IAS, Deputy Secretary, AD-Welfare. The students were made aware of their responsibilities as the members of the Club. The office bearers of the Club for the academic year 2016-17 were:

DG Vaishnav College in association with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection commemorated World Consumer Rights Day – CYNOSURE on 30 July 2016. Various competitions such as mime, quiz, debate and AD review were conducted on this occasion. The members of the Club participated in all the events and won first place in AD Review, third place in the quiz. Participation and winning certificates were given to the students.

The Club organized a seminar on Consumer Awareness on 4 August 2016. Mr. L. Singaram, Deputy Commissioner, Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection was the chief guest for the seminar. Mrs. J. Vijayathilagam, Superintendent, Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection was the resource person. In her speech, she raised awareness about the rights of consumers and misleading advertisements

The Citizen Consumer Club of Quaid-e-Milleth College organized a two-day National Seminar on ‘Consumer World-360 Perspective’ on 8 and 9 September 2016. Two postgraduate students from the Department of Commerce participated in the seminar. The seminar had various sessions chaired by eminent speakers from the Government and NGO’s. The seminar highlighted various aspects of consumerism among the stakeholders.

The PG students of Commerce along with the office bearers of the Club visited the Tamil Nadu State Disputes Redressal Commission (Consumer Court) to understand the proceedings of the court. The students had a valuable learning experience by observing various hearings and sessions of the court.

Prince Shri Venkateswara Arts and Science College in association with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection organized CONPEP - an Intercollegiate Consumer Awareness Exhibition on 2 October 2016. Various State Government Departments such as PCRA, BIS, Drug Control Board exhibited their stalls and explained their role in creating consumer awareness. The CCC members of the College participated in the programme and exhibited a stall on Food Adulteration.

CTTE College in association with Civic Action Group organized a ‘World Day of Remembrance’ on 21 November 2016. The CCC members participated in the seminar to get awareness about the Road Safety Rules. The Club in association with the Silk Mark Organisation of India, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles organized an awareness programme on silk products. Mr. Ganapathiraman. T. and Mr. C. Prabhakar Rao, Asst. Director (Inspection) were the resource persons for the seminar. They exhibited a stall to display various types of available silk products and to explain the process of silk making to the girl students. Mr. L. Singaram, Deputy Commissioner, Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection and Mrs. J. Vijayathilagam, Superintendent, Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection and coordinators from various other colleges participated in the seminar.

Prince Shri Venkateswara Arts and Science College in association with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection observed National Consumer Day on 6 January 2017. The CCC members of the college participated and enacted a Mime on ‘Let the Buyer Beware’.

Petroleum Conservation and Research Association in association with Oil and Natural Gas Commission observed Oil and Gas Conservation Week - SAKSHAM 2017. The CCC members of the College participated and enacted a Mime on ‘Energy Conservation’. The programme was well appreciated by the officials. The students won a cash award of Rs. 5000/- and a 16 GB Pen Drive each.

Ethiraj College for Women in association with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection observed World Consumer Rights Day on 13 February 2017. On this occasion, various competitions were conducted and the student volunteers participated in all the events and won second place in the quiz.

The Citizen Consumer Club of Patrician College of Arts and Science received the Best Club Award, District (South), from the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu for its excellent service in protecting consumer rights. The club is really proud to announce that it has received this award for five consecutive years.
