“Literacy is one of the greatest gifts a person could receive.”
The Literacy Cell aims at imparting education to uneducated and underprivileged people and empower them with basic language skills.
The Cell organized a literacy programme to educate a group of illiterate gypsies on 7 October 2016. Two faculty members Dr. Benita, Asst. Professor, Department of English and Dr. M. Baby, Asst. Professor, Department of Tamil enabled the beneficiaries to read and write Basic English and Tamil respectively. This event was coordinated by Dr. Ahila Shivasankar, Dean, Extension Services and totally nine gypsies benefited from this literacy programme.
The Cell conducted a literacy programme in the college premises from 21 February 2017 to 10 March 2017 to provide education opportunities for the support staff of the College. Concerned faculty members extended their support and educated the participants so that they improve their reading and writing skills in Tamil and English. All the support staff utilised the opportunity and benefited from the programme.
The Cell encouraged all the departments to display current affairs on the notice boards regularly to make students aware of them. Volunteers from each department took turns to display valuable information regarding scientific inventions, achievements and sports and so on to update the general knowledge of the students.
